01 — Concept

A campus shaped by movement.

The brief asked for more than a sports facility — it called for a place where elite athletes train, recover and liveunder one continuous architectural idea.

The design extends an existing badminton academy with a proposed academy block, a half-Olympic swimming pool, a 200 m five-lane athletic track, support amenities, commercial space and residential accommodation for students and staff. Every program is choreographed around a shared circulation spine, allowing athletes to flow seamlessly between training, recovery and rest.

The Arrival

An entry foyer that frames the athletes who came before.

A double-height portal in fluted timber, illuminated signage and a wall of champions establishes identity from the first step inside — equal parts arena and gallery.

02 — Planning Strategy

Zoning that puts the athlete at the center.

Sustainable site-planning principles drove the master plan — reducing the built footprint, maximising landscaped greens, and stacking specialised programs vertically to release ground for the track, field and outdoor recovery zones.

Programmatic Zoning

Three primary zones — existing academy, proposed academy, and commercial block — woven by a central circulation spine.

Athlete-First Flow

Direct, conflict-free movement between training halls, recovery, and residential blocks for students & coaching staff.

Vertical Stacking

Stilt for parking, double-height badminton courts above, residential rooms and conference suites stacked overhead.

03 — Design Features

Sustainability as the design language.

Visual comfort, thermal comfort and heat-gain reduction were addressed through careful orientation, envelope detailing and a holistic energy strategy across the entire campus.

Landscaped Greens

Reduced built footprint, native species, grass pavers.

Water Stewardship

Recycled wastewater & integrated water-management systems.

Solar Orientation

Built spaces oriented for thermal & visual comfort, heat-gain reduction.

Renewable Energy

Renewable technologies integrated holistically across the campus.

Half-Olympic Pool

Daylight, water and silence — a recovery space carved into the heart of the academy.

04 — Technical Coordination

Drawings, details and decisions.

As Lead Interior Architect, my role spanned design development through construction documentation — coordinating drawings across five floors with structural, MEP, acoustics and sports-flooring consultants.
